Photographer-partner on the Riviera Core Story files, Hampton XL & Riviera XXL Magnum, Hampton Carrée in 2007.
Jean-Daniel Meyer was born in Geneva in 1963. He earned a cabinetmaker’s diploma from the Ecole des Arts et Métiers in his native town. This first profession was to leave him with a pronounced taste for working with natural materials. It was film-making that opened the door to the world of images. Through working as an assistant to a director of documentaries and advertising films for over three years ago, he gained significant insights into the profession during various film shoots. He subsequently turned to the field of fixed images. While taking classes at the Ecole Professionnel in Vevey, from which he graduated with a diploma in photography, he served as an assistant in a Geneva-based advertising photo studio.
Since 1992, he has operated as a freelance photographer and works for numerous clients in Switzerland and abroad. Fascinated by the photography of objects, he has made this field a speciality. For the past few years years, alongside the various assignments with which he is entrusted, Jean-Daniel Meyer has been pursuing his personal research into various fields of still-life photography, particularly using the “Polaroid-transfer” process. His current works, whether in colour or in black and white, depict both landscapes and enclosed spaces. Frequently approaching his subjects from an autobiographical angle and in a resolutely initimist mode, he offers a series of photographs that stimulate reflection on the traces of time, on memory and on the apparent banality of daily life. His work has been exhibited in Switzerland and in various other European countries
